Description
The Red House is a house built in the late 18th century, with a front added in 1835. It features red brick with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with stone-coped gables and stacks. The building is designed in a T plan and stands two storeys tall, with a stone plinth, a first-floor band, a moulded cornice, and a plain brick parapet. The front has three bays with quoins and includes a 20th-century glazed door flanked by plain pilasters with a cornice above. On either side of the door are single glazing bar sash windows with splayed gauged lintels and keystones. Above the door are three similar windows. A stone plaque inscribed "JCT 1835" (for John Charles Thorold) is positioned over the central window in the parapet.
