Description
Westgate Hall, located on the east side of Westgate, is a former corn exchange built in 1852. The building is constructed of ashlar and features a two-storey design with a moulded cornice and a balustrade adorned with ball finials. It has rusticated quoins and three windows, each with a moulded shouldered architrave topped by a curved pediment, and includes a 6-light transom and mullion. A stone band runs along the sills and connects the ground and first floors, displaying two shields. The building also features a three-bay arcade supported by Tuscan columns and half columns, with round arches that include keystones, while the two side bays are filled with shop windows. Westgate Hall and the adjacent properties numbered 1 to 11 form a cohesive group.
