Description
1, 2, 3, and 3A Westgate is a late 18th-century building that stands two stories tall, constructed of red brick with a slate roof. The facade features four windows with flush frames and glazing bars. Number 1 includes a shop front with fluted Doric pilasters that support an entablature, a bow window with glazing bars, and a door located beside the window that has a glazed upper part and a fanlight. Numbers 2 and 3 have modern shop fronts, while Number 3A features a Victorian doorway. Both Numbers 3A and 3 have iron Victorian window boxes. Notably, the sign of Number 2 and an iron dustpan, which is about 160 years old and has been displayed outside at least two other shops, are of interest. A passage from Number 3 leads to the stable yard of the George Hotel. Westgate Hall and Numbers 1 to 13 form a group.
