Description

The Vicarage is a vicarage built in 1772, possibly incorporating earlier work. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with a Westmorland slate roof and stone-coped gables, featuring three brick gable stacks and two ridge stacks. The building has a T-plan layout. The front range is two storeys plus attics, with three bays, a first-floor band, a cornice, and a stone-coped parapet. The ground and first floors have three glazing bar sash windows, while the attic features two gabled dormers.

The rear range consists of six bays, also with a cornice and parapet. In the left-hand angle, there is a 19th-century glazed door covered by a 19th-century porch, which has an outer door with a stained bordered light and a matching overlight, flanked by single narrow glazing bar sashes. The porch has a moulded cornice and a flat lead roof. To the right of the door are five glazing bar sash windows, and on the first floor, there are six similar windows, all with brick segmental arched heads. The roof includes three pedimented dormers with glazing bar sashes and leaded cheeks.

The right-hand gable shows a section of tumbling and a steep roof pitch, suggesting that part of the building may date back to the late 17th century. On the north side of the rear range, there is a brick inscribed with "CT 1772" above the door, along with a fire insurance plaque and number. Inside, the property retains a stick baluster staircase with a wreathed handrail and a carved open string.
