Description
The Priory, Gates and Gatepiers is a house built in 1658 for William Garnon. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a pantile hipped roof. The roof has three wall stacks with broad moulded stone bases that have set-offs, topped by tall brick shafts, and a single moulded stone ridge stack. The building has a moulded stone plinth, a first-floor band, and an eaves cornice, along with quoins. It is a three-bay, two-storey structure.
The main east front has a central doorway with a staff moulded ashlar surround and a plank door. Above the door is a two-light chamfered and mullioned overlight topped by an inset plaque inscribed "GWA. 1658," with the first-floor band rising above it. On either side of the door are single chamfered two-light cross windows, with three similar windows above on the first floor. The south front features a single centrally placed chamfered three-light cross window on each floor.
At the rear, there is a low two-storey 18th-century brick extension. Inside, the house contains a fine contemporary carved single flight return staircase and a panelled room with a staff moulded stone fireplace. The attached garden wall features centrally placed iron gates and a pair of rusticated gate piers with moulded caps topped by ball finials.
