Description
The Church of St Peter is a parish church dating from the 12th century, which was restored between 1874 and 1876 by R H Carpenter. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features ashlar coped gables with finials, along with tile ridge roofs. The building includes a tower, nave, north aisle, south aisle, porch, and chancel.
The west tower, which is unbuttressed and from the 12th century, has a renewed two-light west window and four two-light Y-tracery bell openings, topped with shallow crenellations and crochetted pinnacles. The north aisle contains a four-light window with intersecting tracery and four three-light windows also featuring intersecting tracery. The east end showcases a five-light window with geometric tracery and a single large foil.
The south gable porch has a re-used round hoodmould opening decorated with dog tooth ornamentation. The south aisle features an ashlar coped parapet and three three-light windows with intersecting tracery. The south chancel has three two-light windows with Y-tracery. Inside, there is a re-used four-bay north arcade with stiff leaf capitals, quatrefoil piers, and double-chamfered arches, along with plain 19th-century fittings.
