Description
The Horse Monument, located 10 metres north west of April Cottage, is a Grade II listed structure commemorating 10 horses. It was built around 1830 and is made of ashlar stone. The monument has a square plan, featuring a plain square base topped by a square block with chamfered corners, which is inscribed with the names "GRANBY" and "LILLA". Above this is an octagonal block with a chamfered top, inscribed on each face with the names "GROUSE", "STAFFA", "RUPERT", "PEERESS", "DASH", "MINNA", "BEAU", and "MILINER". The structure is finished with a plain circular pier that supports a large ball finial. This monument was erected by Richard Myddleton to honor 10 of his favorite horses and also served as a garden ornament in the grounds of his home, Leasingham Hall. April Cottage on Rookery Lane is not included in this listing.
