Description
Old Hall Stables is a former stable block for Gautby Hall, now used as a house and garages. It was built for the Vyner family in 1756 and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick with some ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof with raised stone coped gables. The gable on the right has a stepped top, a gable stack to the left, and a single ridge stack. At the rear, there is an external wall stack.
The front of the building is two stories high and has ten bays. On the left side, there are six basket arches with ashlar impost blocks; three of these have 20th-century double planked doors, while three are blocked and contain 20th-century sash windows. To the right, there are four semi-circular headed openings with 20th-century glazing bar sashes. The heads of these openings are original, but two have been extended from Diocletian windows. The first floor has eight 20th-century glazing bar sashes with segmental heads.
In the right-hand gable, which features two brick bands, there are two deeply set semi-circular headed arches with ashlar impost and key blocks, now containing 20th-century windows, and above them are two 20th-century glazing bar sashes. The rear elevation has been altered in the 20th century but still retains four oval lights at first floor level. The interior preserves its original oak pegged staggered butt purlin roof at the right-hand end. Gautby Hall was demolished in 1872, making the stable block the only remaining structure from the main Park buildings.
