Description
The Church of St. Margaret is a parish mortuary chapel located in Waddingworth. It dates back to the 14th century, with restorations in 1808 and 1913 by H. F. Traylen. The building is constructed of squared greenstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings and some brick patching, with roofs made of pantiles and plain tiles. The church consists of a nave with a western bellcote and a chancel.
At the west end, there is an ashlar gabled bellcote that has a pointed opening housing a single bell. The double doors are set in a pointed opening, adorned with timber Y tracery above. Above the door, there is a carved top of a 13th-century foliate cross grave slab integrated into the stonework. The nave has a pantile roof while the chancel has a plain tiled roof, and both have blank north walls.
The east window features two lights with 14th-century cusped heads and a quatrefoil above. The south windows are also two-light, characterized by pointed brick arches and timber Y tracery. Inside, the church retains a 13th-century font and a 19th-century Commandment Board. The chapel is now closed and used as a store.
