Description
The Langrick War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Margaret, which is also a Grade II-listed building. It stands approximately 30 meters to the east of the church, overlooking the main road. The memorial is designed as a 3.7-meter tall Latin cross featuring a crucifixion, constructed from Weldon Stone. It has a two-stepped octagonal base that supports an octagonal plinth. Four sides of the plinth are adorned with shields carved in relief. The cross shaft is square in shape and tapers along its length. The stone figure of Christ on the cross is positioned on the eastern face of the memorial, facing the main road.
On the upper tier of the two-stepped base, each of the eight sides is inscribed in low relief with the names of battle areas: PALESTINE (south-east), EAST AFRICA (south), YPRES (south-west), AISNE (west), JUTLAND (north-west), SOMME (north), and MARNE (north-east), although the eastern side is currently illegible as of 2017. The names of those commemorated are inscribed on bronze plaques attached to the northern and southern sides of the plinth, with an additional plaque on the western side that lists two men who died in the Second World War.
