Description
Mill House is a former mill cottage that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame that is cased in brick and plaster, with some red brick exposed. It has a thatched, half-hipped roof and a central ridge stack. The layout follows a lobby entry plan and is a single storey with attics. The front has four bays, with a 20th-century door that is covered by a 20th-century brick and pantile porch. To the left, there is a three-light 19th-century sliding glazing bar sash window and a half-glazed door with a side light. To the right, there is a three-light 20th-century casement window. In the attic, there is a small two-light sliding sash window. The interior retains its original smoke-blackened clasped purlin roof, main earth fast bay posts with braces, and an arch-braced tie beam. All internal partitions and floors have been removed, creating an open hall appearance. At right angles to the cottage is a later wing, which is not of special interest.
