Description

114 and 116 Eastgate are an early to mid-19th century building of four storeys, rendered in appearance. The ground floor displays vermiculated rustication, while the first floor has channelled rustication. A parapet rises centrally, topped by an egg and dentil cornice supported on consoles. The building has five windows, consisting of hung sashes with glazing bars and cills on tabs. The windows on the second floor have rusticated lintels with keystones. The first floor of number 116 includes a three-light window and a single-light window set within an architrave, the latter adorned below with plaster motifs, a dentil and moulded cornice on brackets, and flower drops to the architrave. A moulded band runs along the cills and continues the cornices. A modern window has been inserted into number 114, interrupting the band. Number 116 features a mid-19th century shop front and a four-panel door, alongside a modern shop front to the right. The building is listed as part of a group, together with numbers 114 to 122 (even).
