Description
The Black Horse Inn is a 17th-century inn located on Top Street in Appleby Magna. It features a timber frame and painted brick construction, originally consisting of 12 x 4 x 3 square panels set on a stone and brick plinth, with one storey and an attic. In the 20th century, the building was raised to two storeys, and applied timbering was added to the upper floor. The roof is plain tiled and also dates from the 20th century, with two ridge stacks. The inn has various casement windows. There is a two-storey wing, built around 1840, which adjoins the main building at a right angle. This wing is constructed of painted brick with a plain tiled roof, featuring 20th-century windows and doors below, and two 8/8 sash windows above.
