Description
Coleorton Hospital is a house that was formerly used as almshouses, built in 1867. It was a rebuilding project by Sir George Beaumont of an earlier foundation. The building is constructed of brick and has two storeys with a half-butterfly plan. It features Dutch gables that incorporate stacks at each end and a central piece between the wings. There is a dentilled brick string course and eaves cornice, along with black diaper work on the first floor. The wings have renewed casement windows, some of which are in original brick arched openings that display red and black work. The doorway has been renewed and is set in a full-height recessed archway with a keystone in the central gable. This gable also contains the Beaumont arms and an engraved stone that records the foundation of the hospital, which has been re-sited from the earlier building. The arch is adorned with decorative woodwork featuring scrolls, monograms, and the date.
