Description
Little Belvoir is a country house built in 1839 for Thomas Johnson. It was enlarged in the mid-19th century and altered in 1906. The exterior is cement-rendered to imitate masonry and features a hipped slate roof with rendered internal stacks. The house is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys, except for a three-storey hexagonal angle turret on the right, which was formerly a porch. This turret has a Tudor-arched head and a hood mould above a former doorway, now a window, as well as one-light windows with arched heads and hood moulds, mock machicolations, and battlements. The main body of the house includes two- and three-light windows with wood mullions, arched heads to the lights, and hood moulds. There is a double string course at the first-floor level, a string course at the base of the battlemented parapet, and a bartizan at the right angle of the garden front. The interior has not been inspected. The house was originally known as Wartnaby House or Castle.
