Description

Manor House Buildings, dating from 1738 but with an earlier rear section, features a striking facade of red brick with stone dressings. The building stands three storeys tall, with Roman Doric pilasters flanking the central windows on the upper storey. It has stone quoins and stone-capped brick chimney stacks. The facade is adorned with a triglyph frieze and a moulded pediment above the centre, along with a moulded stone cornice and a brick parapet that includes stone panels. There are five windows, with a small window above the north side passage. The central windows all have moulded stone shouldered architraves, while the centre first-floor window features a pulvinated frieze and moulded cornice. The other windows have segmental arches and moulded stone architraves. The ground floor was altered in 1897, featuring a central doorway with rusticated pilasters and segmental arched windows. Inside, there is a fine staircase with three fluted and turned balusters on each step, along with a carved and ramped handrail that has scrolled ends. The front rooms of the house are 18th-century panelled, with one room having an enriched cornice and another with a plainer cornice. The plasterwork includes a landing ceiling with two large plaster roundels featuring low relief moulding, an archway, fireplaces, and six-panelled doors. The rear wing has a roof with substantial purlins and possibly crucks, now clad in modern timber. The rear also features a two-storey Queen Anne stone facade facing a cobbled courtyard, and there is a reset beam dated 1603.
