Description
26 and 28 Church Street is a building dating from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and features a modern pantiled roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a width of four windows. The northern two windows are sashes with glazing bars, and the first floor has keystones. The southern part includes one modern leaded casement window on the top floor and a modern bay window with leaded glazing on the first floor. The ground floor has two modern shop fronts. There are interesting cellars that are currently inaccessible. This building was formerly part of an inn known as "The King's Head," where King Charles I is believed to have slept the night before the Battle of Naseby.
