Description
Grey Ladies is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an early 19th-century wing. It is constructed of rendered brick and features a twin span roof made of Welsh slate, with brick end stacks that have double and triple flues placed diagonally. The main range has a band and the left wing has polygonal buttress-like projections at the angles, along with a brick-coped gable facing.
The main range is two storeys high and has three wooden mullion and transom windows arranged as 3-light, 2-light, and 3-light, above a similar 3-light window on either side of a restored central pedimented doorcase that contains a six-panelled door. The wing facing the gable has a similar 2-light window with a 6/6 sash above it. On the left end, there is a central flat-topped porch supported by Roman Doric columns, which features early 19th-century French windows with wooden bottom panels that have blank Gothic arches. The right end has a single-storey lean-to and, set back, a further two-storey wing that faces the gable and includes similar wooden mullion windows. There is also some reset 17th-century panelling. The building was formerly the Rectory.
