Description

A range of four cottages, built in the later 18th century, with three cottages added around 1800. The cottages are constructed from coursed rubble stone with quoins, and have a Welsh slate roof with a brick ridge and five brick end stacks. They are two storeys high. The first floor has eight three-light windows: two horizontal sliding sashes, followed by two casements, two centre-opening casements, and then two further casements. The ground floor has a centre-opening three-light casement on either side of a plank door to The Cottage; a similar arrangement with a part-glazed door to Manor Cottage; then, to Pedlar’s Rest, a four-pane window in a blocked doorway, a centre-opening three-light casement, a three-light casement, and a door; and finally, to Apple Cottage, a single-light window, a plank door, and a three-light casement. Most windows have wooden lintels. There is a single-storey lean-to on the right-hand end and extensions to the rear. This property demonstrates group value as a cohesive range of vernacular buildings.
