Description
No. 27 Church Street is a large house with a core dating back to the 17th century, although it has been significantly altered in the late 19th or early 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and features a Swithland slate roof. The main part of the house has 2½ storeys and three bays, with a central doorway that includes a glazed door set beneath a chamfered stone lintel. On either side of the doorway, there are two-storey squared stone bays, each containing 3-light wood mullioned and transomed windows on both floors. Above the door, there is a 2-light window, and in the attic storey, there are 2-light casements set beneath shaped gablets. The eaves are overhanging, and the roof has been heightened in the 19th or 20th century. The rear range of the house is rendered and features two 17th-century stone mullioned windows on its side elevation; one has been replaced in the ground floor porch, while the other, located above it, has a hood mould. The rendered rear wall also includes various tall sash windows.
