Description

The Homestead is an early 18th-century farmhouse, though its core likely dates back to the late 16th or early 17th century. The farmhouse is constructed of brick, with a zinc roof that replaced a thatched roof. It has a three-unit plan, with a projecting gabled wing on the right-hand side. A wooden doorway, set within a moulded architrave, is centrally located in the left-hand bays. The windows are 3-light casements, renewed within their original openings and featuring cambered heads. A blocked attic window is visible in the gable apex. The building incorporates a plain sill band, and a dentilled sill band in the gable. A plinth is also present. The central doorway is flanked by 2-light windows in the rear wall of the gable, and a 2-light window and doorway are located beyond in the main range. To the right of the doorway, a lean-to single-storeyed wing is timber framed with brick infill, preserving posts and rails and one arched brace. This wing was formerly gabled with a pitched roof. The patchy brickwork and rendering on the rear wall of the main range gives indication the brickwork may replace former timber framing. Gable and axial stacks are present.
