Description
Launde Abbey Stables is a stable block dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from finely coursed ironstone, resembling ashlar work, and features a hipped roof covered with Swithland slate on the front slopes and Welsh slate at the back. The building has single-storey hipped wings on either side, while the main range is two stories tall, highlighted by a central pedimented gable. This gable contains a shallow segmental arch with voussoirs and a 6-light sash window above. A string course accentuates the gable, which also has a clock at its apex.
Each side of the main range has four bays, with the outer bays featuring 4-light wood mullioned and transomed windows, along with single opening lights. The inner doors are topped with overlights, and there are upper 6-light sash windows. All openings are framed with stone lintels. The end bays, located behind the low projecting wings, serve as cottages accessed from the rear. The cottage to the south includes a rear wing with two 2-light casement windows on each floor and an inner doorway. The rear windows are mostly concrete splayed openings with iron glazing bars, but there are larger 9-light wood mullioned and transomed windows flanking the door. Each side also has one upper loading door.
