Description
Moat House is a house with medieval origins that was enlarged in the 17th century and altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of stone, with brick additions, and the north front is rendered. The building has a gable-ended roof made of Swithland slate and features brick end stacks. The layout follows a cross passage plan.
The north front has a four-window range with sash windows that include glazing bars and keystones above. The west front is stone-built at the northern end and has a diamond-pane, two-light casement window in the attic. The south front features a staircase projection and a 19th-century porch. The east front has a stone plinth and two windows on each floor, with three-light casements on the ground and first floors, and one blocked two-light window at the attic level. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase, and the north-west ground floor room contains a four-centred stone fireplace that was brought from Knightthorpe Hall during its demolition.
