Description

Old Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century and features a complete timber frame structure that was encased in brick in 1702 and later. The building has a close studded timber frame with lath and plaster infill and a brick skin, which is partly cement rendered. It has a plain tile roof with a central stack and a ridge stack. The house is designed in a T-plan, with a two-storey former porch located at the angle of the 'T' on the north side.

The north elevation showcases a large gabled bay to the right, which includes a three-light segment-headed casement window on the ground floor, a similar two-light window above, and a segment-headed window in the gable. To the left is the former two-storey porch, which has a gable facing east. This porch features a single-light window on the first floor on the north side and a two-light window on the ground floor on the return wall. The left part of the house has a central doorway with a 20th-century door, flanked by two-light casement windows under flat arches, with two similar windows above. The south elevation also has 20th-century casement windows. The right part of the house has a first-floor band, and the east gable end is marked with a brick dated 1702.

Internally, the timber frame is exposed, and the north gable end features decorative curved braces. The east wing consists of two rooms on either side of a large central stack, with the entrance located against the stack on the north side. The west cross wing also contains two rooms on either side of a stone central stack. There is a winder stair to the west of the stack, an inglenook fireplace, exposed beams, and stud partitions. The roof has double purlins with upward braces on the lower purlins.
