Description

SK 38/3925 PARISH OF MELBOURNE CHURCH CLOSE 6/64 (East ,Side) Three Pairs of Vases Flanking Central Path of Upper Terrace in Melbourne Hall Gardens GV I Three pairs of urns. Early C18, possibly by Samuel Watson. Erected as part of a French style garden designed by Royal Gardeners to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne Hall. Stone. All the urns have panelled stone bases on stepped plinths with thistle-shaped vases over, on tapering bases. Each urn has a gadrooned base to the bowl and fluted sides. Included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at Grade I. See item 6/63 for sources.
