Description
Three pairs of urns are located flanking the central path of the upper terrace in Melbourne Hall Gardens. These urns date from the early 18th century and are possibly the work of Samuel Watson. They were installed as part of a French-style garden designed by the Royal Gardeners to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne Hall. The urns are made of stone and feature panelled stone bases on stepped plinths, with thistle-shaped vases resting on tapering bases. Each urn has a gadrooned base to the bowl and fluted sides. The site is included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at Grade I.
