Description

The Village Hall, originally built as a school in 1843 by Charles Colville, features minor later alterations. Constructed from ashlar with stone dressings, it has a moulded sill band and a chamfered plinth. The building is topped with a steeply pitched fishscale tile roof, which has a line of stone corbels at the eaves and moulded stone kneelers at both ends. The advanced central bay showcases moulded stone copings on the kneelers, a ridge finial on the gable, and a gabled bellcote featuring a ridge finial, a semi-circular headed bell opening, and a continuous hoodmould on a square base.

The hall is a single storey with three bays and a porch on the north side. The central bay contains a 4-light recessed and ovolo moulded mullion window, adorned with a carved achievement of the Colville family and the initials 'CHC' above, all beneath a stepped dripmould. Above this window, in the gable, is a small blind lancet. On either side of the central bay are similar 3-light windows. The south gable wall features a 3-light mullion and transomed window with a datestone inscribed 'AD 1843' above, all beneath a stepped hoodmould with scrolled stops. Above this window is a small segment-headed single light window.

The north gable wall includes a scrolled iron lamp bracket at the western corner and a central gabled porch with a four-centred arched doorcase. There are 4-light ovolo moulded mullion windows on each side of the porch, along with an inset diamond niche that has a raised shield above the door. Inside, the hall has simple arched braced roof trusses.
