Description
The railway overbridge, located 250 metres south-west of Birley Farm, was built around 1840 for the North Midland Railway Company. It is constructed from regularly coursed coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings and brick linings in the arches. The bridge features double segmental arches, with ashlar voussoirs and a projecting keyblock. There is a central pier that has a pointed and domed ashlar cutwater. The heads of the arches are adorned with bold roll moulding, and there are remains of a shallow parapet that has been modified to include modern parapet railings. Please note that Birley Farm is not included in this listing.
