Description
This building is a row of four cottages located at 5-11 St Peter's Road in Buxton, dating from the mid-18th century and altered in the mid-20th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble, which is whitewashed at the front, with ashlar dressings. The roofs are covered with synthetic tiles, while the rear wing has Welsh slate, and there are five stone ridge stacks featuring water tabling.
The cottages are two stories high and have quoins. The front features a regular arrangement of eight windows, with four 20th-century doors positioned under canopy porches alternating with four window openings. The windows at Nos 6 and 8 were originally three-light windows. Most of the windows are set in squared surrounds and consist of 2-light casements with leaded glazing. Above, there are eight similar 2-light casements, mostly with plain ashlar surrounds.
On the left side of the building, there is a single window on each level and a door leading to the rear. The rear elevation includes a right-angled wing with a stack and a single-storey lean-to. On the first floor, there is a single light window in a dressed stone surround and one 20th-century inserted opening.
Inside No. 5, the principal room features beams and joists, and the roof purlins are said to be roughly shaped. Only the ground floor was inspected.
