Description
Numbers 1-4 Milnthorp Homes are four almshouses built in 1904. They are constructed of coursed rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and feature plain tile roofs with terracotta ridge tiles. The raised coped gables have kneelers and stone stacks. The building is single storey, and the main front displays four windows arranged in a pattern of 1:2:1. Each window has a 4-light square bay with sashes, where the upper lights include glazing bars, and each bay is topped with a stone gable. The outer gables are straight while the inner ones are round, featuring cross panels and quatrefoils, all topped with ball finials. Between the gables, there are two pairs of recessed doorways with glazed doors and overlights set under segment arches. The returns of the building have projecting external stacks. The interior has not been inspected. This block is part of the Milnthorp Almshouses group.
