Description

The Bridge is a structure located on the east side of High Street in New Mills. It features two arches that span the river and has medieval origins, with elements from several different periods. On the south side, there is a cutwater situated between the segmental arches, which are approximately 5 or 6 feet wide. To the north, there is a wider arch that has a nearly semi-circular shape and matches the span of the segmental arches. Additionally, a third and higher arch can be found on the western half of the bridge, which has been modified in modern times with reinforced concrete slabs on both the north side of the western half and the south side of the eastern half. It is likely that the earliest narrow-arched section served as a packhorse bridge of historical significance.
