Description

This railway bridge, located 225 yards to the south-west of the crossroads, dates from around 1825. It is a simple beam bridge with a single span that once carried the Cromford and High Peak Mineral Line over the roadway. The abutments are made of coursed stone rubble. The wooden superstructure is supported by three tapered and flanged cast iron beams produced by Butterley at his ironworks in Ripley. This bridge is one of the earliest examples of its type to have survived.
