Description

The building is a grammar school dating from 1828. It was designed by William Maskrey, a Wirksworth stone-mason. Constructed in the Tudor Gothic style, it is built of ashlar stone. The two-story building has four two-light casement windows with Gothic glazing set within square hood-moulds. A ledged door is recessed within a chamfered reveal, featuring a hood-mould and a festooned panel above the door. A band of diamond-shaped enrichment runs along the first floor, surmounted by an enriched cornice and an embattled parapet with crocheted finials. The gabled ends also feature the same parapet and enrichment, each lit by a large arched traceried window. The school was originally founded in 1584.
