Description

Yew Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid-17th century and rebuilt in the mid-18th century, with a date of 1723 inscribed on a plaque. The building is constructed from rubble and coursed limestone, featuring gritstone quoins and a Welsh slate roof. It has three storeys and three windows on the first floor, with a 19th-century lean-to on the right side.

The ground floor showcases pink gritstone quoins and an original moulded, quoined doorway located on the far right. Above this doorway is a plaque with eroded initials and the date 1723. To the left of the door is a former three-light chamfered, mullioned window, which has had its sill cut through to accommodate a 20th-century casement window. There is also a blocked 19th-century doorway near the centre of the house, with the current door set in a broad opening beyond it.

On the first floor, the buff gritstone quoins are visible. There is a single-light window flanked by two-light windows, all framed in tall square-cut sandstone surrounds, although the mullions have been removed. The second floor features similar windows to the first floor but smaller and intact. The building has a chamfered eaves band, ashlar gable copings, and brick stacks at the ends. The rear of the farmhouse retains remnants of various 17th-century windows.

Inside, the ground floor includes oak ceiling beams and a fireplace bressumer beam at the right end. On the first floor, original boarding is said to be beneath the current pine boards, with thick splats on the landing balustrade and an elm boarded door leading to the room at the right end. The second floor retains original joist structures but lacks floorboards.
