Description
This listing describes two pairs of gates and an adjoining wall at Hartsay Hall, dating from around 1793 and the early 20th century, which incorporate materials from the 18th century. The structure is made of stone. Both sets of gates stand approximately 10 feet high, with a slightly lower rubble wall between them. The western gates feature plain square piers topped with simple cornices and re-used fluted ball finials. The eastern gates have square piers with banded rustication, moulded bases, dentilled cornices, large banded ball finials at the tops, and thick pilasters on the sides, also with banded rustication. The double leaf gates between the piers have side panels, each with a dog rail at the base, a frieze of scrolls above, panels of triple rails, and small scrolled overthrows at the top. The eastern gates were originally from the Strutt estates at Bridge Hill House, built around 1793. This listing is included for its group value.
