Description
The houses at 26 to 36 Short Rows are likely the first homes built by the Strutts in Belper, constructed between 1788 and the early 1790s. These terraced cottages are arranged in pairs, stepping up the hillside. They are made of red brick with slate roofs and brick chimneys, and consist of two storeys. Each house typically has one window, mostly featuring modern glazing in the original openings. Some have gabled porches, although most are modern. The rear facades, which face north, each have a small first-floor casement window. The ground floor windows have generally been altered, while No 32 features a fixed window with glazing bars and a small centre opening light.
