Description

The bridge over the railway on Field Lane was built in 1840, during the time when the railway was surveyed by George Stephenson. There is some evidence that the bridges were designed by Francis Thompson. This rusticated stone bridge features ashlar coping and quoins. It has an elliptical arch made up of voussoirs, with impost bands and a band above the arch that extends to the cutting walls. The north parapet has been replaced by a metal guard.
