Description
Manor House, formerly known as Manor House, is a Grade II* listed building located on Preston Cross Lane. It dates back to the mid-16th century and features a rubble and ashlar construction with stone slate roofing. The house is designed in an H plan, consisting of two storeys and an attic.
The front of the house showcases three stone mullioned dormers, which are flanked by two gable end stone mullioned windows. The first floor has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with a stone mullioned six-light window in the gables on either side of a central arrangement of windows with three, six, three, six, and three lights. The ground floor mirrors this window arrangement, featuring a similar layout with an ashlar dressed doorcase positioned below the central window, which leads to a heavy studded timber door. The building also has shallow, splayed stone bays and three-light stone mullioned dormers on both the left and right hand returns. There are four brick stacks present.
The interior of the Manor House has been significantly altered in the 19th century, but part of the original balustered staircase remains on the upper floor, located on the right-hand side. A sundial is situated below the central dormer.
