Description

Ayston Hall is a house built in 1807 by H D Legg. It is constructed of ashlar with a stone tiled roof, and has a 2 by 3 bay design. The entrance front features a narrower, recessed central bay with a portico. The ground floor has two paired Wyatt windows with ashlar mullions on either side of the entrance. The portico is supported by two Roman Doric columns and two thin pilasters, topped by a plain entablature. The facade also features a three-bay arcaded centrepiece on moulded pilasters, and incised tablets between the upper and lower windows in the end sections. A heavy moulded ashlar cornice and parapet runs along the top, and there are three ashlar chimney stacks. A fragment of a 17th-century structure is located immediately to the west of the hall.
