Description
Uppingham School Wall and Gateway was built in 1926 and 1929. The wall is made of coursed squared ironstone, which has been reused from cottages that previously stood on the site, and features a brick outer facing to the east. The inner face of the wall includes three blocked 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullioned windows and has a 4-centred arched doorway set perpendicularly to it, both of which are remnants from the demolished cottages. The gateway, constructed of coursed squared stone, consists of three round-headed arches, with a large central carriageway flanked by two smaller pedestrian ways, each equipped with cast iron gates. These gates were presented by the members of the Old Uppingham Lodge of Freemasons.
