Description

The Gateway to Oakham Castle is a Grade I listed structure, likely built by the first Duke of Buckingham. It resembles two gateways located in the Park at Burley-on-the-Hill. The gateway is constructed from ashlar and coursed rubble. It features pointed inner and outer arches with chamfered edges, topped with an architrave, frieze, cornice, and pediment. The corners of the pediment are adorned with small obelisk pinnacles that have star finials. Modern wrought iron gates with a horseshoe motif complete the design.
