Description
Burnham House and Merton Cottage are two houses, likely originally one house with outbuildings, dating from the 16th century and later. They are constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and feature a Collyweston stone slate roof, along with stone end and two ridge stacks. The long range is two storeys high, with a lower 19th-century addition, which was once a Post Office, projecting towards the street at the right end. This addition has a hipped roof, a hipped dormer, a side stack, one 20th-century window, and one blocked opening facing the street.
The main range includes a segment-headed carriage entrance that is now blocked and filled with a door and window, positioned between buttresses with set-offs. There is a tiny window at eaves level above this entrance. To the right, there are two 20th-century casement windows and a 20th-century door, along with a gabled three-light casement dormer that breaks through the eaves. To the left, there is a 20th-century four-light casement window, a late 19th-century shop window, and a door, with two two-light casements above. The rear of No 94 features two gabled wings, one of which has a blocked four-centred arch.
