Description
Lyndon Hall is a mansion built between 1671 and 1673 by John Sturges for Sir Abel Barker. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a plinth, rusticated quoins, a first-floor band, a coved cornice, and stone dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with Collyweston slate, featuring four moulded stone central valley stacks adorned with rusticated quoins and blank arches. The building has a square plan, with three principal façades that are similar. It stands 2½ storeys tall and has seven mullion and transom 2-light windows, although the ground floor was lowered, likely in the mid-19th century. The windows have moulded stone frames and sills, with three 2-light dormers above, the central one topped with a semi-circular gable.
The central first-floor window projects slightly and features a shouldered frame with carved volutes on either side. The entrance front includes a mid-19th century square porch designed in a similar style, with rounded arches on each side that are open at the front and glazed on the sides. Carved consoles support a cornice with a balustrade above, and there is a two-leaved part-glazed door inside. On the left garden front, there is a doorway that was filled in the mid-19th century with a window matching the others, topped with an open scrolled pediment. The rear garden front has a similar doorway with a two-leaved part-glazed door accessed by two stone steps. Additionally, there is a mid-19th century one-storey extension on the left end of this rear front. The interior also dates from the mid-19th century.
