Description
The gateways and screens at the north end of Wilford Bridge are located at the end of Victoria Embankment and were built between 1920 and 1930, likely designed by T Wallis Gordon, the Corporation Surveyor. They are constructed from ashlar and feature wrought-iron gates and cast-iron railings. The structure includes square piers with plinths, cornices, and shallow pyramidal caps. In the center, there is a pier flanked by pairs of gates leading to the roadway. Beyond this, there are short screen walls with smaller end piers, which have concave coping and cast-iron railings. Footpaths are situated on either side. This design is part of the landscaping scheme for Victoria Embankment, which was largely funded by Sir Jesse Boot.
