Description

The Bell Inn is a public house and wine shop located on Angel Row in Nottingham. It dates back to the late 15th century and was refronted around 1820, with further alterations made in the mid and late 20th century. The building features timber framing with a stucco front and dressings, topped by a hipped concrete tile roof. It has two storeys and a three-window range. The windows are primarily plain sashes with projecting surrounds. Above the windows, there is a moulded pediment that contains a bell in relief. Below this pediment, a panel displays the name "Bell Inn" in relief letters. On the right side, there are two windows on each floor, while on the left, a similar window is set higher. Below this window, there is a replica early 19th-century wooden shopfront with a cornice, which includes a recessed glazing bar bow window and a four-panel door with an overlight.

Inside, the inn retains significant elements of its timber framing, including stop-chamfered ceiling beams and crown post roofs. The first-floor room on the left features an arch braced truss and a stud wall. The cellars are vaulted and rock-hewn, with rock pillars and a brick-lined well. A rear addition includes a panelled room from around 1926 in Tudor style. The Bell Inn has been operating as a public house since the mid 18th century.
