Description
The ha-ha, gate piers, and garden wall at the front of Beech Lawn date from the mid to late 18th century. The ha-ha features punch-dressed stone with ashlar coping and cast-iron railings. The walled garden is constructed of coursed rubble with a brown and red brick lining in stretcher bond. The retaining walls of the ha-ha create a circular island that wraps around three-quarters of the house. At the east and west ends, there are monolithic gate piers topped with pyramid caps, which still have remnants of railings. The railings are ramped towards the piers and include straight and wavy rods with spear-head finials. The west end is attached to the left return of the house, while the east end connects to the rectangular walled garden, which is enclosed on three sides with ramped coping and features two projecting segmental-arched hoods over seats on the eastern side.
