Description

A group of four monumental slabs is located in an unevenly spaced row, positioned 3½ to 10½ metres south of the southeast corner of the Church of St. Peter. These monuments commemorate Jonathan Green, who died in 1722; Robert Bedford, who died in 1744; Thomas Dunhill, who died in 1747; and another Thomas Dunhill, who died in 1770.

The monument for Jonathan Green features a continuous border of repeated leaf patterns, scrolls in the corners, a raised decorated initial letter "H", and an elegantly seriffed inscription. It also includes an addition for Jno. Green, who died in 1768. Robert Bedford's monument is undecorated and has a plainly worded inscription in seriffed lettering, with additions for his wife Mary, who died in 1761, and his daughter Sarah, who died in 1764 at the age of 3 months.

The third monument, for Thomas Dunhill, has a shouldered fielded panel topped with an elaborately carved head that includes skull and crossbones, an hourglass, a hammer, faces, and flowers. The panel is stylishly lettered and has an addition for his wife Sarah, who died in 1772, although the head is cracked. The fourth monument features a moulded shouldered arched head with radiant flowers in the spandrels and an elegant inscription, along with additions for his daughter Ann, who died in 1773, and his son Thomas, who died in 1798.
