Description
The boundary wall to Number 20, Clarendon House, was built around 1855. It is made of red brick, using both English and stretcher bonds, and features flat stone copings. The wall is approximately 90 meters long, starting from the southeast corner of Clarendon House on Hyde Street, continuing along Clarendon Road, turning the corner into Hyde Place, and extending a short distance into Hyde Terrace.
The eastern and southern sections of the wall are plain, standing about 4 meters high along Hyde Street and reduced to 2 meters along Clarendon Road, topped with flat coping stones. There is a narrow gateway with stone reveals and a wrought-iron overthrow that includes a lantern bracket, positioned opposite the main entrance of the house.
The corner section to Hyde Place and the remaining parts of the wall are more decorative, featuring brick pilasters and a dentil frieze that matches the brick detailing on the house. Additionally, there are six quarter-round steps leading up along Hyde Place and a finely-moulded round-arched gateway located near the corner to Hyde Terrace.
