Description
No. 34 Hyde Terrace is a house built in 1861, now serving as the University of Leeds Department of Community Medicine. It was constructed for William Bolland, who owned the Albert Nail Works in Hunslet. The building is made of red brick laid in stretcher bond, with stone details and a slate hipped roof. It has two storeys and a basement, featuring five bays.
The facade is symmetrical, with a central entrance that has a pilastered surround, foliate capitals, an entablature, and a dentilled cornice. The windows are sashes set in keyed architraves, with first-floor and sill bands, a modillion eaves cornice, and a pediment above the central bay. There are end stacks on either side. The left return has five bays, with paired windows in the center and slightly projecting stacks that have narrow recessed panels in bays two and four. The interior has not been inspected.
