Description
The Gothic Summer House, located approximately 200 metres south of Bramham Park, dates from the early 19th century, with a former list suggesting it was built in 1845. Constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar, the building has a tripartite plan featuring a square central section with small square wings.
In the Gothic style, the structure is symmetrical, with a higher single-storey centre that is buttressed. It features a two-centred arched doorway with engaged shafts topped by foliated capitals, a moulded head that contains a trefoil fanlight, and tall two-centred arched windows on each side adorned with wooden tracery, creating two lights and a multifoil in the head. A string course runs along the building, and there is a blank shield in the centre of the frieze above, topped by a parapet with four crocketed pinnacles. The flanking wings, which are slightly set back, each have a two-centred arched window with a hoodmould and crocketed pinnacles at the corners, although the left wing is missing its pinnacles. The rear of the building is designed in a similar style. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the summer house is noted on a survey by Detmar Blow around 1907, where it was referred to as a "Museum."
