Entrance range to the Smithfield Ironworks, now offices and shops. c1848-50, restored and altered c1990. Red brick with painted stone dressings, hipped slate roofs. Italianate style. 3,1,3,1,3 bays flanked by rusticated pilasters, cornices at eaves and over ground floor. Centre 3 windows in 3-storey bay with heavy modillion cornice, central clock tower with rusticated quoin pilasters and heavy modillion cornice and lead-clad pyramid roof with wind vane. Ground floor: bays 2 and 4 have elliptical-arched carriageways on ornate console brackets, central round-headed doorway with keyblock and paired pilasters. Former Victorian shop/office windows replaced by C20 glazing. Upper floors: round-headed windows in moulded architraves with keyblocks, paired windows to 2nd floor, centre; canted bay window at left end removed. Former premises of Thomas Green and Sons, developers and manufacturers of lawn mowers. INTERIOR: not inspected.
